One of a range of very similar W series compacts announced in 2011, the DSC-W510 is a basic 12.1 megapixel camera with a useful 26-104mm equiv. zoom and 2.7" screen. For an entry level compact you can get image stabilization, a Sweep Panorama mode and in-camera editing features. Although you would miss out in standard HD video recording which have become very common even in entry-level cameras today, you can still shoot VGA videos. With both Intelligent Auto and Easy Shooting modes the camera can be an ideal option for users who want to buy or gift a simple point-and-shoot camera.

Dynamic Range Optimiser (DRO) – automatically optimises image to recover lost details in shadows and lost highlights.

Soft Skin mode - Soft Skin mode recognizes skin tones and reduces the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles without affecting the rest of the shot.

Natural Flash - takes a reference shot without flash and then uses that reference to correct the color, for far more lifelike images

Self-Portrait Timer - recognises when your face enters the frame. Once the camera detects your face, it triggers a 2-second timer, and then snaps a picture.

Photo Music - combines images with music (4 tracks, 5 minutes per track) to produce fun and entertaining slide shows with standard visual effects (Simple, Nostalgic, Active, and Stylish).

PMB Portable - Built-in transfer software allows quick, easy uploads to image sharing sites when camera is connected to any web-enabled PC.
